An old hunched over man walked out into the middle of the intersection of Spadina and Adelaide, carrying a bursting bag of fruit. He stopped in the centre of the road, oblivious to the honking traffic, the streetcars, and he stopped and turned and began to pull apples from his shopping bag, throwing them out into the road like he was sowing seeds. Eventually he stepped things up and just dumped the remaining contents of his bag onto the street, over the criss-crossing streetcar tracks. Green apples and worn steel.
